Whole Rests
Below is an image of a whole rest. Notice that it looks like a black
rectangle hanging down like a pillowcase on a clothesline. It fills up
a whole measure. If there are any notes in a measure with a rest, it
cannot be a whole rest. Remember, rests are counted silence. Count in
silence: 1-&-2-&-3-&-4-&. Again, your foot should tap
the four beats in 8 clear pulses: Down-up, Down-up, Down-up, Down-up.
